How many triangles are in this rocket blueprint in total?

Rocket Blueprint
  1. 2
  2. 4
  3. 3
  4. 5
Need a hint?

Scan the nose cone and the fins and count every triangle.

Answer & method
Answer D: 5

Count each triangle by part: 1 nose cone and 4 fins (1 + 4 = 5), giving 5 triangles in all.

ReasonSolids and nets

A tray holds 5 cubes and 1 cuboid. How many corners do all these solids have in total?

5 cubes + 1 cuboid
  1. 48
  2. 56
  3. 16
  4. 46
Need a hint?

Find how many corners each type of solid has, multiply by its count, and add the two totals.

Answer & method
Answer A: 48

Each cube has 8 corners (5 x 8 = 40) and each cuboid has 8 corners (1 x 8 = 8), giving 48 corners in all.

StretchSolids and nets

Look at the cube stack. How many MORE unit cubes are needed to make 12 cubes in all?

Cube StackCol 1: 3Col 2: 2Col 3: 2Col 4: 2
  1. 4
  2. 3
  3. 2
  4. 9
Need a hint?

Add the heights of all columns first, then subtract that total from twelve.

Answer & method
Answer B: 3

First add the column heights from left to right: 3 + 2 + 2 + 2 = 9 cubes. Then subtract from 12: 12 - 9 = 3 more cubes needed.

Ideas to practise

  • Reflection and symmetry. A mirror reverses left and right, but not top and bottom.
  • Shapes and their properties. Count straight sides and corners carefully. A curved edge is not a straight side.
  • Solids and nets. Follow which faces meet when folded. A face touching another in the net cannot be opposite it.
  • Perimeter. Add the lengths around the outside. Do not confuse perimeter with area.
  • Visual reasoning. Track the position, orientation and markings, not just the outline. Check every part of a picture.

A game mission has 8 untimed questions. Only the game saves choices and hints. A finished mission earns one launch charge and participation towards the Probe bus in Outer Planet Voyager. The chapter goal is 8 different questions in finished sets; hints and wrong answers count as participation, not mastery. Some craft systems link more than one chapter.

Choose a level

Explore

Foundations: read a representation and practise the underlying idea.

  • Choose a reflected tile picture
  • Decide which statements about a picture are true
  • Count a target shape in a composite craft
  • Solve a riddle about faces, edges and corners
  • Count unit cubes in a 3D stack
  • Find the boundary length of a grid figure
Play Explore

Reason

Paper-style reasoning: connect clues, interpret a diagram or work backwards.

  • Choose a rotated tile picture
  • Decide which statements about a picture are true
  • Pick the half that completes a symmetric badge
  • Count unit cubes in a 3D stack
  • Find the boundary length of a grid figure
  • Solve a riddle about faces, edges and corners
Play Reason

Stretch

Higher-order practice: link conditions, test statements and avoid a tempting wrong method.

  • Evaluate two picture statements
  • Transfer an orientation rule
  • Decide which statements about a picture are true
  • Count unit cubes in a 3D stack
  • Find the boundary length of a grid figure
  • Pick the half that completes a symmetric badge
Play Stretch

Levels change representations, clues and conditions, not just the numbers. These are practice formats, not validated exam-equivalent difficulty.

Using the feedback

Learning reports distinguish hinted answers from independent first choices. They consider up to 20 recent different, unhinted questions per skill and level, and wait for at least five before suggesting extra practice. Repeating the same question does not add evidence. Reports are practice evidence, not IQ scores, diagnoses, ranks or predictions of competition results.

Ask the learner to explain a drawing or check with objects too. Choose Explore or an earlier chapter when a step feels too large.

Sources & limits

The grade topics use SOF IMO Class 2 published topic syllabus as their primary reference. The SOF sample and CREST previous-year paper below informed representations and reasoning demands. Providers have different topic boundaries; their syllabi are not interchangeable.

Questions, diagrams, picture choices, hints and explanations are original Otterly work, not copied paper questions or publisher artwork. No Olympiad provider is affiliated with or endorses Space Academy. This is not complete exam preparation; follow classroom teaching and check the current official syllabus too. Independent educator review is still needed for difficulty and breadth.

Content and coverage notes. To report a confusing question, describe the grade, chapter, level and question on the contact page. Do not send children’s personal information.

Private, local saves

Game progress stays only in this browser, in three anonymous explorer slots. Clearing site data or closing a private session may remove it. Download a private backup from Help & saves; there is no cloud sync. The game checks saves before play and stops on save failures rather than pretending progress was saved.

These page examples never change a saved game. Game links carry question settings, not a learner’s answers. There are no names, school details, public profiles, chat, analytics or advertising SDKs in the game. Grown-up guidance · Privacy
